Finned tubes are elongated flat tubes made of aluminium cladded carbon steel that have brazed aluminium fins. These Bimetallic Fin Tube are part of a network of heat exchangers. The advantage they have over regular tubes is that the fins allow for more contact with the liquid outside. This accelerates the heat exchange between the liquid inside the tube and the one outside. The rate of heat exchange in a normal tube would be much slower.

Finned tubes are especially useful in air heat exchangers. The heat transfer in an air heat exchanger is between a liquid and a gas. Because the heat coefficient of the airside is lower, a finned tube can be extremely useful.
